“Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And Let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless.” 1 Timothy 3:8-10
The deacons, made up of Vincent J Guerrero (chair), Sajid Chohan, Bert Berrios, and Vincent S. Guerrero, strive to honor the Lord by faithfully living in a way that testifies to our faith and trust in Jesus and the working of the Holy Spirit within us. We all feel honored to have been called to serve the people of MBC through the office of deacon and continue to seek out new ways of working and organizing so we can be as effective and efficient as possible.
The Deacons are charged with the distribution of funds from the “Fellowship Fund” or “Deacon Fund” which is used to provide extra financial aid and support to those in our church membership and community. Throughout this year, through the generous donations from members and visitors to this fund, we have been able to help numerous families and individuals ease the financial burdens from unexpected events and circumstances as well as aid in the rehabilitation of individuals with difficult pasts. This fund gives us a valuable tool to use in our community to help those in need in a tangible and immediate way. It is hard to over-emphasize the importance and impact this ministry can have in our community.
One of the other major privileges of the deacons is to “generally oversee the men’s ministry of the church”, as laid out in the church constitution in Article IV, Section 3. To this end we currently help host the monthly Men’s Brunch, held every third Saturday of the month, which through the last years since its reinstatement has been a great boon to the fellowship and community that men can seek out at MBC. At this gathering we’ve moved through content from well known speakers like Tony Evans, pastors such as Daniel Henderson, and ministries like The Bible Project, but also by messages put together by our own elder and leadership teams like Dave Frenden, Lee Saunders, and Errol Senses. It’s been wonderful to see the men of MBC really come together to help execute a large and complicated event with such humbleness and self-sacrifice, and we believe that the fruit that this ministry has born in our church and community is priceless.
While we strive to serve as much as possible with a small team, often we are stretched thin or are unable to meet requests due to lack of availability. This saddens me greatly, so I ask that you join me in praying that humble, self-disciplined, and sacrificial men get added to our number so that we can better serve our church community.
We please ask that you continue to lift up in your prayers the office of Deacon and the men who serve as we strive to honor and serve our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.

next level
Next Level Men is a four-year discipleship program obeying the command of Christ to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). Next Level is an accountability group for men who want to live Christ-centered lives. Through the use of the spiritual disciplines of daily Bible reading, Bible internalization and reading of insightful Christian literature, men gather in community to share the transformational power of Christ in their lives.
Midwest Bible Church completed its 11th year with Next Level Men. This last year six men graduated from Next Level Men. The 2024 graduates are Brian McPherson, Mario Morales, Fernando Mendez, Carlos Arana, Paul Brush, and Paul Huelar, with Wilson Geong and Gene Brush as the leaders.
The year 2024 marked the completion of the new four-year program for Next Level Men where there are no meetings in the summer. There are various changes so that men find it a little easier at the beginning of the program in order to adapt to the rigors of the program.
In addition to the graduating class previously mentioned, Manny Arroyo and Israel Soriano with the leadership of Jaime Rivera, Pastor Marco David, and Gene Brush met on Saturday mornings for Next Level 100 (101, 102, 103). On Sunday mornings at 9:30 am, Josue Cartegena, Rey Santiago and Josh Pagan met with leaders Vince Guerrero Sr. and Gene Brush for Next Level 10, 20 and 30.
In 2025, three groups continue to meet on Monday night (Next Level 10 by Zoom), Saturday morning (Next Level 201) and Sunday Morning (Next Level 101).
We want to thank Pastor Marco and the leadership of Midwest Bible Church for their support of this vital ministry.

USHERS
The ushers have done a wonderful job of greeting and making our guests feel welcome as several new families and friends attended Midwest this past year and it has resulted in many coming back to stay with us. Getting to know everyone and introducing them to others is one of the joys of ushering. We have found the need for more ushers and have a few interested in taking on the role. Praise God! We recently met to thank our dedicated ushers for their service and willingness to be doorkeepers in the house of the Lord. We will be focusing on coordinated security and seeking God’s direction in how we can serve our Pastor and congregation. Please keep us in prayer and be sure to say hello and thank them for all they do.
Ushers who served in 2024:
Mario A. morales, Jamie Rivera, Richie Lord, Angel Pagan, Scott Mayer, Bert Berrios, Benny Vasquez, and Luis Pagan.
"For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness." Psalm 84:10

Hoops and hope
The heart of Hoops and Hope Ministry is to celebrate God’s grace and share the hope of Jesus Christ through His Word, bringing people together through spirited competition and honorable sportsmanship. Since this outreach began in 2023, we’ve reached about one hundred young adult men in our community. We believe it’s essential to build bridges to connect with people for Christ—particularly young men who might not otherwise encounter the gospel. By offering this ministry free of charge and serving these men with genuine love and care, we create a powerful bridge to share the life-changing message of Jesus with them.
Through preaching the gospel between pickup games and building relationships on the court, we’ve been blessed to see some of these young men profess faith in Christ. These intentional acts, like opening our gym, striking conversation, and acts of kindness, plants seeds of hope.
Currently, Hoops and Hope is on a hiatus, with plans to resume in the Spring. We need your help to keep this ministry thriving! If you’re interested in serving, sharing a word, or your testimony, please reach out to the church office for more information.
