The Road Back Home
In the first message in the series on the book of Ruth, we learned about Elimelech’s wrong decision to leave home—to leave the Promise Land with his family in a time of famine because in his eye’s things look more promising in the land of Moab. And at the end of the road they discovered that there’s no bread in Moab.
Oh, they found physical bread away from home, but they did not find the bread their soul’s needed the most—namely to be in right relationship with God—to be at home with the Lord. But after losing everything in the land of Moab, Naomi heard in the fields of Moab that God had` visited His people and given them bread (Ruth 1:6).
After hearing the good news, Naomi decided to return home. Naomi, who left Bethlehem full, and came back empty, would come to find more than physical bread. Naomi, whose name means pleasantness, but whose soul was in bitterness, would come to find rest for her weary soul and redemption for her daughter-in-law Ruth.
In this message we glean 3 lessons from Naomi and Ruth’s road home that we can apply to our lives to find rest for our souls.
